Story by Marc Dionne
26 of the strongest players came out to play for the $1,000
in cash and prizes.
Here were some of the notables that attended this event: Bob
Dennis, Dan Couture, Steve Reynolds, Larry McKenna, and Richard
Marx’s.
This tournament had a lot of the locals here and it was very
nice to see a nice turn out since pool has been off a bit
in 2007.
The hot seat match was new owner Steve Reynolds vs. Bob Dennis.
This match was like a horse race - it went game for game for
the first 10 games until Steve made a critical error and gave
Bob an opening. He won the next game and made the score 6-5.
He would then break and run out, win the set 7-5, and send
Steve to the one loss Finals against Larry McKenna who he
had beat earlier - and he wanted revenge. This match was a
one sided match - it seemed like Steve wasn't there. He would
lose 7-2 and Larry would face Bob in the finals.
The Finals
Larry McKenna vs. Bob Dennis
It seemed like we would go two sets in this one. Larry came
out to a 5-0 lead before former Maine State Straight pool
champion Bob Dennis would get a chance at the table. When
he got his chance he made good of it and he won the next 6
games. Larry was just shaking his head in disgust and he was
saying to himself, “I blew a 5 game lead”. He
wasn't out - Bob made a mistake on the six ball and let Larry
back at the table and he made him pay. He would win that game
and make it 6-6 and it would be Larry's break - he came up
dry and Bob would run the table and take the title.
