Harris double dips Connor to take All-Class 10-Ball event in New Hampshire Frank Harris used a handicap to his advantage in taking two out of three from Nick Connor and winning an All-Class 10-Ball event of the New England 9-Ball series on the weekend of January 9-10. The $200-added event drew 20 entrants to Buster’s Billiards in Somersworth, NH.
From among the winners’ side final four, Harris got by Rick Martarazzo 4-4; Matarazzo had to reach 6 in the contest. Connor, in the meantime, was sending Sina McClure west 6-2 to get into the hot seat match. Harris and Connor battled to double hill before Connor prevailed 6-3.
It was Gil Stadig and James Correale waiting for McClure and Matarazzo on the one-loss side. Stadig had advanced past Jake Longley 4-4 and Dave Hambley 4-3 to meet McClure. Correale had defeated Terry McDermott 6-1 and Fred White 5-4 for the right to square of against Matarazzo. Stadig advanced to the quarterfinals with a 5-2 win over McClure, as Matarazzo got by Correale 5-3 to meet him. Stadig took advantage of his handicap in those quarterfinals, defeating Matarazzo, who had to reach 6, 4-4. In the semifinals that followed, the roles were reversed, with Stadig needing to get to 6 to defeat Harris. Harris prevailed 4-4, setting up a rematch against Connor in a true double elimination final.
With the handicap advantage, the finals set up as a 6-3 race, with Harris needing to win the fewer amount of games. He did so convincingly in the opening set, winning it 3-2. He took the second set 3-4 and took home the first place prize.
