Story by Marc Dionne
September 16, 2007
13 of the strongest
BCD players came out to play. Here were some of the notables
who attended: Rick Gata, Dan Simoneau, Kerry Mcalife, Peter
Sandberg, and Marc Dionne.
Winners side Finals
Dan Simoneau vs. Rick Gata
The Tournament favorite was in the finals Dan Simoneau. This
match was a close one it was a barn burner. The score was
5-5 after the first 10 games, then Gata broke away and won
the next 2 games and the victory, his first birth into the
finals.
Losers side Finals
Marc Dionne vs. Dan Simoneau
Dan won the first match between these to 7-6. Although Marc
should have won that set he was up 5-2 and let Dan back in
that match. He had an easy 9 ball and missed it and Dan would
win the set. That was not the case this time - Marc was out
to win. He just came off a 7-0 win over Kerry Mcalife, who
was one of the tournament favorites also. Marc came out firing
at Dan and would not let up till he won the first 5 games.
Then Dan won 2 games. That’s as close as Marc would
let him get - he would win the next 2 games for the 7-2 victory
and his chance at the championship.
Rick Gata vs. Marc
Dionne
It looked like Marc Dionne was going to steam roll Rick Gata
the way he was playing in his last to sets 7-0, 7-2 wins.
But Rick had something else in mind - he would put the brakes
on Marc's great playing. I think Marc got burnt out and he
would fall 7-4 and have to settle for 2nd place.
